I am speaking about me of course.
I remember my mother telling me to 'be quiet and listen'.
When I was younger I just wanted to get my point across and talked anyway.
"You are just old, outdated and don't know nothing" the thought was going through my head, but I didn't tell it to her!
As I got older and became a parent, I found out that she knew a lot more than I gave her credit for.
It is always best to listen first, you will learn a lot.
I came to realize that the way you bring yourself to a situation will determine how others treat you.
Do you approach situations in a humble spirit?
(meaning: 'is there anything I can do to help' and you really mean it, really sincere.)
or...
Do you bring an exalted spirit to the situation?
(meaning: 'I am better than you and I don't like you')
The way that you bring yourself to others makes a huge difference.

It doesn't matter how many degrees you have, who you know, or what you have done - it is your approach that has the biggest effect on their opinion of you.
