Is God the Scapegoat?

People turn away from God for many reasons.

It is my experience that they all have a story and it involves other people.  Many times God is not involved in the story at all!!

  • They may have been told something hurtful when growing up
  • Some ‘bad’ thing was done to them
  • A pastor did something mean to them
  • Church people did them wrong
  • False teaching about God, His Plan, and His relationship with humans was taught to them
  • They prayed and told God that they would serve IF their loved one was healed – but instead of healing their loved one passed away.
  • Natural Disasters took lives
  • Unfair things happen

It’s a big list.  I noticed that people are at the core of most of this list.  Things that were said, things that were done, things that ‘people’ had done to each other.  Yet instead of examining what happened or what was said and realizing it was people that did it – they turned their back on God, the one who didn’t do anything to them.

I remember meeting with a person who did not believe in God.  Here is my story:  Most people at their workplace wanted nothing to do with them.  I always wanted to know why people believe what people believe.  So I asked them.  What they responded with was that all over the world there are people who are hungry and starving in the world – so there couldn’t be a God!

As I was listening to them speaking, I thought to myself 'Really?  Because people are hungry you don't believe there is a God?'  Remember:  God's Spirit is not going to dwell where it is not wanted.  In order to have a relationship with God - you have to get to know him and learn how to work with him.  If you want His help you have to get to know him.  He doesn't want to hear from you only when you want something and be ignored otherwise.

All their life this person has denied the existence of God because people are hungry.  Even though there is enough food in the world to feed everyone, but GREED and Selfishness in people is what keeps the food from being distributed to those in need, not God.  They were  blaming God for the sins of people.

Is God to Blame for the hungry people in the world?  Nope.  Is God to blame for people murdering each other?  Nope.  Jesus made a statement that there would always be poor among you, and that we were to care for others and make sure that all got what they need.  You can’t blame God because people shoot each other or steal from each other or deprive each other of basic human needs.  It’s the people who are doing rotten things.

That's probably too deep a subject to really get into right now, so I can get my pastor to answer any questions you send in.

Hard Times: The Power to Change

One thing I learned from church:

It does not matter who you are or how much money you have, you will go thru and experience this thing called "Life".

You might go thru a time when you can’t get a job – over qualified, under qualified, ignored, embarrassed, etc… sometimes this happens to you so you can learn to relate to other people and be able to comfort and encourage them when you come out of it.  This is that thing called life.

Look at the man in the KJV Bible named 'Job'.  He went thru things that would have destroyed a person who didn’t have the faith level that he had.  Moses went thru things.  Even Jesus went thru things.  He wouldn’t be a good mediator if he had never been thru things.  He had to be tempted so he could identify what we go thru… and he responded with ‘thus saith the Lord’ or ‘it is written’… He kept his mind right with the Word of God.

You think about the disciples, they all went thru something.  Peter even denied Jesus himself and was restored.  So in life, people will go thru things, don’t make fun of people.  Remember: this too shall pass.

Even Daniel went thru something – a Lion’s den.  They passed a law saying it was illegal to pray to God and Daniel bowed down and prayed anyway.  So Daniel was thrown in a Lion’s den as punishment, but God sent an angel to keep the lions from eating him!!

Nobody is exempt in this earth from being tested.  You can hear about people going thru things and some can’t take it and might even kill themselves, where others are able to make it thru.  It helps to go thru the tests with the Word of God to rely on.  It makes me stronger when I know that God is on my side even if my friends and the ‘whole world’ turn against me!

Anybody who applies God’s rules and regulations can come out of the tests.  I want to come out of the tests, not just to get out, but to come out with God’s favor and in His perfect will.  Anyone can do this if they understand the principles of God’s Word and use them.

If I come out of the tests in God’s will, I will come out wiser and better for it.  I will be ok.  If I just come out of it, without understanding, then it was just a hard time.  I want to come out on top!

In all thy getting, get an understanding.

The 3 Hebrew children in Daniel had to go into a fiery furnace and they came out of it, even though the fire was turned up 7 times hotter.  But hey, they survived. They had to go thru something.

Everybody you read about has to go thru what I call ‘the fire’ – the tests and trials of life.

Some endure it and some don’t.  Don’t look down your nose at others when they go thru their fire.  Get a chance to learn and help other people.  Look at what they are going thru and give them an encouraging word to help them make it thru.

I learned in church that I can make it!

And to remember: this too shall pass.  That’s what it says in Ecclesiastes chapter 3 ‘ to everything there is a time and a season, a purpose’

My true story:

I remember when the Lord was trying to get my attention and I wasn’t listening.  I ended up out of work and no matter what I did, I couldn’t find a job.  I tried anything and everything and all doors were closed to me.  I would go apply at a place that was hiring, with recommendation from people that worked there and I would NOT get the job – but I would see other ‘less qualified’ people get hired on, or see them continue to interview people for months but not give me a chance!

I kept trying to figure it out, frustrated, upset, depressed, crying at times, emotional and unhappy – until I finally calmed down enough to listen to what the Lord was saying to me.  I had been praying but I wasn’t listening because I was too upset!!

It wasn’t until I got my mind back on the Lord and got my peace back that I was able to stop fussing, settle down and just listen.  Be content with where I was and ‘Let Go and Let God’ lead me.  Then I started noticing how He was guiding me and I began to follow Him and began to come out of my situation.

I learned a lot during this time.  And I realized that I had judged other people as lazy or doing something wrong or ‘bad’ in some way when they went through tough times like this!!  And I realized that I had been totally WRONG to do that!!

Part of life is going thru challenges; Challenges have the power to change us for the better and develop our skills, abilities and talents.  Challenges have the ability to position us into places we wouldn’t have willingly gone, in order to receive Blessings we never would have imagined!

I started to realize that tough times were actually good for me – as long as I kept my mind right, kept my thoughts on God’s Word.  It wasn’t that Jehovah (God) didn’t love me – in fact it was His Love for me to put me thru this test so I could change my thinking, develop compassion for others, and be willing to share my story and give a comforting word to those in need!

I didn’t see it at the time, but now that I am out of it, I am so glad that He loved me enough to do that!

It really is true that ‘hindsight is 20/20’ – meaning that you can see clearly when you look back on something – see what it was all about, but in the middle of it – you don’t know what is going on!!

Hallelujah!!

More of what I learned from church...

Something else I learned in church…

Did you know that God has multiple names and titles in the bible?  Jehovah, Yahweh, Jah, Adonai, Elohim, The Great ‘I AM’, The Most High, and more.

So when I hear someone say that they worship God by one of these names, its okay, because He does answer to them.

Each of the names mean something.  They are a way for us to experience God.  Kind of like job titles, the names represent parts of God’s personality and ways that He interacts with us.

Example:
“Jehovah” expresses that God is a God who ‘does’ things for us.  Jehovah is another version of “Yahweh”.  It is most often found in scriptures connected with another word – an ACTION word.  “The God Who Does _____”  I read that God is a God who Brings Victory, Provides for us, Keeps us Safe, Brings us Peace, Is Always Present with us, and more!  He is a God who is ACTIVE in our lives – NOT a un-responsive ‘dead’ god that some pray to.  In fact the KJV Bible states that Israel knew God as ‘God Almighty’ and had not yet come to know God as Jehovah – so God decided to introduce himself as such.

Exodus chapter 6 verses 2,3
And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD:
And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.

Another Example:
“The Great I Am”, “The Most High” are titles that show us that God is above all created things in power and authority.  There are those that are ‘high’ and ‘I Am’s’ and ‘gods’, but this God is higher than all of them.  Nothing has more authority – No Religion, No Magic, No Witchcraft, No Curse, No Device, No Plot or Scheme, No Worldly Power can compete with or even come close to being as powerful and amazing as The Almighty God!

This is Great news for me!  I Believe in a God who is Greater than all my problems combined and I serve him with all my heart.

More names:
“Jah” refers to God as the ‘Everlasting’ – a God who never dies, in fact can’t die, a God who exists for eternity.  That is wonderful because I know that this is a God who can be relied upon and will be there – always be there!
“Adonai” indicates ‘sovereignty’ and was used by Hebrews instead of speaking God’s name.
“Elohim” is a title of Lord and says that God is in charge.

There are more names, but this gives you a good sample of how names are used to describe God’s character, leadership and authority.  I love getting revelation of the Word of God.

Do you see why I love going to this church?   And I don’t have to listen to TV preachers anymore?

Do I love the Word?

Yes, I do.  Yes, Yes, Yes!!

Lessons learned in Church

There is a saying 'what you don't know, you don't know that you don't know'.
I used to go to a church on Sunday and would come home not satisfied and still have to listen to more preaching on TV.

I discovered that I would often get more from some of the TV pastors then I was from own pastor!

Oops!

I was contributing to a church that wasn't supplying my spiritual needs!
It was like paying for a meal at a restaurant but not enjoying it, not satisfied, so searching out others to 'feed me'.

I thought you could go to any church and be okay; I didn't know that God actually plants people in the church he wants to bless them in.  I wasn't fulfilled, because I was in the wrong place.  There are many places you can go to church, but that's not where God assigns you.

The thing I learned is that when you go to a church that God assigns you to be, you will just know, and that church will be like a home.

Since I found my place in the church God led me to, I come home on Sundays completely satisfied and don't need the TV preachers anymore!

Besides, all those TV preachers believe different things about God, Jesus and the Bible. . . but that subject is for another day.

NOW this is some of WHAT I LEARNED in CHURCH...

Church is a place, I learned, that can teach you to be a better person, IF you apply the principles.

A place to learn who is God, who is Jesus, and what is the Holy Ghost.
Are they 3, are they 2 (correct answer), or are they 1?

There are churches that teach all of these, but I Thank God that He allowed me to go to a church where I am able to understand and Read for MYSELF what is Truth and how to use it in my life!

I didn't know the difference at that time, but I found out that it is written in Exodus chapter 20 verse 24 that there are some places that God has 'written' His name.  What that means is that God picks places and calls them holy and pays special attention to what happens at that spot.  The ministers of God who serve at these places, fear God and preach what God tells them; not what you want them to say.  No pre-planned sermons – they ‘prophetic’ speak, allowing God to deal with every single person that shows up!!

When I started going to this church I began learning more about God, Jesus and the Bible then I ever thought possible.  Your pastor needs to be able to show you the Truth by Scripture.

Remember that churches can be like fast food restaurants - 1 on every corner, but they all believe (serve) different things.  They are 'competing' against each other.  God's Truth doesn't 'compete'.

So the scripture gives us teaching on this.  Did you know that satan has ministers who are called by him, anointed by him, and look and act like Christians?!!

This is found in 2 Corinthians chapter 11 verses 13-15.  And in Matthew chapter 7 Jesus called them 'wolves in sheep's clothing'.  There is much discussion throughout the bible about the Truth Jesus taught and the deceptions the devil uses to fool the world!!

The KJV bible says that in all you do, get an understanding.  When you get an Understanding of Truth, you can actually obligate God to Bless you.  But if what you believe is Not truth, then God doesn't have to respond to you at all.

For those that are really truth seekers with a sincere heart, he will lead you to people who have HIS truth.  So it is important to pray and have God lead you to a pastor who is preaching Truth.

If you have a pastor who is doing so, you should thank God for them and support them whole-heartedly.
That church will be all of one mind and on one accord, they will understand the Truth and understand the Lies that are being used to deceive the world, because Truth exposes lies.  Once you know Truth you automatically know, according to the Word, that everything that isn't Truth, is a lie!!

When you read the KJV bible with an Understanding, then you get the 'keys' to open up the scriptures.

Church is also a place to learn about the earth, about yourself, about the Plan of God and your place in that plan.

A place to learn about your spiritual rights and responsibilities, your gifts and talents, your authority and dominion, and MOST important…Learn who God is, Learn who Jesus really is and what his purpose for coming here was all about, and Learn what the Holy Spirit is all about and how important it is in my life.

This is a place to find family...
A family that believes alike and LOVES you unconditionally.
