One thing that I have learned in life, is that life is all about learning. You are going to be places, and hear things.
The Bible tells us that there are times for everything.
We will have times to speak, time to listen, time to learn.
Life is all about growing.
Sometimes you will be in places and hear something being said, thinking to yourself "should I even get involved. This person is so worked up, will they listen to anything, 'can' they listen? Are they open to discussion, to hearing, to learning why I believe what I believe?"
And then I can learn why they believe what they believe.
Or are they like a cement wall - blocked up, closed off, and solid - not willing to move.
Here is a story:
I heard someone stating a belief system using the foundation of Jacob and Esau from the bible. Their scripture was 'Jacob he loved, and Esau he hated'.
This was the reason that they choose to hate people today.
Hating Esau and his descendants.
So let's look at it...
Abraham and Sarah were married and had Isaac - Isaac married Rebekah and they had twins: Jacob and Esau. Esau came out first. Jacob came out 2nd.
They were brothers, they were twins, they were family.
Same parents, same skin color, same ancestry, same heritage, same culture.
When the bible makes the statement about hating, it's NOT talking about emotional hate.
It's always used to say that someone took a one-time action against somebody, often with zero anger involved.
Example:
if Rebekah had emotionally 'hated' Esau, she would have stopped feeding him, and he would have died as a baby. They didn't have social services or ways to test how the baby died way back then. Who would have known?
As a mother, if you don't like the child - 'hating' them means you won't take care of it.
Nowhere in the story do you find any examples of God emotionally 'hating' and abandoning Esau - refusing to feed him, care for him. You won't find it because it is NOT there.
In fact you see that God BLESSES Esau and his descendants the Edomites, giving them wealth and property. (just not as much as God gave to Jacob)
Another example:
if a mother or father goes out and buys their child a really expensive pair of shoes, and the child goes out and sells them for a bowl of soup...
You won't emotionally hate the child, but as a parent you will hate the child's 'actions', and won't let the action slip by, it would have to be dealt with.
So back to the story...
Esau sells his birthright (far more valuable than a pair of shoes) for a bowl of soup, in fact it says that 'Esau despised his birthright'.
God, as a father, 'hated' Esau's action, and His discipline was that he honored Esau's decision and "hated" since he gave away his birthright to Jacob.
Back then, birthrights meant a lot. So for Esau to spit on God's gift to him - hating on God and saying that the birthright was only as valuable as a bowl of soup. God simply heard the words and gave Esau the desires of his heart.
This is why, I learned, that you have to be careful what you say on a daily basis, because your spoken words can come back to get you! (especially when you think that nobody is listening)
There is a difference between God's 'hate' and God's 'wrath'. God's hate simply means he does something to take away from you, often as a punishment and then you can be forgiven - that's why he is a loving God.
This is why people can do wrong and God can Love them enough to forgive them and turn their life around and make it into something right!!! And then use their life as a Testimony to help others get free from satan's traps and put them on the right track.
It's the people that won't forgive and hold grudges.
Example:
Paul in the New Testament. Look at what Paul did that was wrong - hating people because they believed in Jesus and doing them harm, but once he was shown by Jesus what was right, Paul changed his actions, changed his life, and ended up being written about in the bible for all his goodness and hard work to spread the message of love the Jesus taught.
The people had a hard time forgiving, but God forgave.
But God's wrath means that you will be punished, that God is going to get you, and there is nowhere you can hide!! God can hate a person - for their actions - and then forgive them when they sincerely work on changing. But if God ever has 'wrath' for them, they are in a lot of trouble.
Think about it... how many times have you 'hated' a person - maybe a family member or co-worker, and then they changed their ways and you started liking them!!
Or another example is like a teenage crush - you can be so in love with a person one day, then they do something you don't like and you 'hate' them the next, and then they do something to make up to you and you love them all over again.
'Hate' being used to say you don't like what they did and that might come with a punishment of some kind... like maybe you don't talk to them for a day! but you go back to being nice once they do what you like again.
When Jacob deceived their father into giving him the largest part of the inheritance, Esau lost the biggest portion, but he still received an inheritance - though it was smaller, God still gave him a blessing. If God was 'emotionally' hating on him - he would have gotten nothing at all.
Now some of the children of Esau (his descendants) settled in a part of the world that they called Edom (which means 'red') (which also is why they are called Edomites) in honor of the red bean soup that Esau loved so much.
It is a great story, full of lessons, and here are some scriptures listed below to back up what I am saying:
King James Version of the Holy Bible:
Genesis chapter 33 verse 9
...And Esau said, I have enough, my brother; keep that thou hast unto thyself. (See he got a blessing and inheritance anyway)
Deuteronomy chapter 2 verses 4-6
...And command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you: take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore: 5) Meddle not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth; because I have given mount Seir unto Esau for a possession. 6) Ye shall buy meat of them for money, that ye may eat; and ye shall also buy water of them for money, that ye may drink.
(of course they would have been afraid because the tribe of Jacob's people were around 500,000 men - that is a big group! And the meaning is that God wanted to make sure that his children didn't fight amongst themselves, that they respected each other, and didn't take on an 'emotional' hate because God had punished Esau for his poor choice of spoken words in selling his birthright.)
If God was so into 'hate' as an emotional thing, why would he punish Cain for the hatred and murder of his brother Abel?

And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand; 12.) And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear.
Violence and killing are the natural end results of people choosing to hold onto emotional hatred.
Why did God forbid killing in the 10 commandments? (King James Bible: Exodus chapter 20 verse 13)
God even says that the 'wrath of man worketh NOT righteousness' (King James Bible: James chapter 1 verse 20) meaning that when humans get angry and hate each other -
it NEVER produces anything good - it only harms.
That is why God had it written in there, so we would know! duhh!
That wrath, that anger of man, is satan's spirit - all about division, being exalted, wanting to take over and put others down and delete anybody who gets in the way.
Another example
is when they killed Jesus -
they hated him because he was doing 'good'
(King James Bible: Acts chapter 10 verse 38)
hated him without a cause.
(King James Bible: John chapter 15 verses 24 and 25)
Imagine that - someone does you good and you want to harm them?!!
What is wrong with that picture?
If God was so 'childish' as to emotionally hate a person over a bowl of soup, and want his children to hate each other, and harm each other over that same bowl of soup- then he would have allowed satan, and his rotten confusion spirit,to stay in heaven!
Since he is NOT for that, God kicked satan and his confusion out and sent him to earth.
Do you think that God is that childish? Hhhmmmm...
The world would be in a worse mess - that would be a horrible God -- and I wouldn't waste my time serving him.
I serve a God who is LOVE and teaches me to LOVE.
My God teaches me to look over the petty stuff that people do and love them anyway.
Like Jesus said on the cross, having compassion on people that did him wrong, 'Father, forgive them for they know not what they do'
But that leads into a whole other story and I just want to keep this simple. Ok?! Ok!
