King James Version Matthew chapter 4 verses 4, 7 and 10

This is what Jesus did when he said 'it is written'. He was using the word of God to base his decisions on. He was deciding how to feel and how to behave based on the wisdom of those scriptures.
Jesus was showing us how to base our lives on the word of God. Letting us know that we can rely on God's word to guide us.
This is why Jesus was a good example for us.
